Clay County High School has approximately 625 students. This school sits in a beautiful location along the banks of Elk River in Clay County. The school was built in 1971, when the old high school burned. A major addition was constructed with the assistance of School Building Authority of West Virginia.

Clay County High School is known throughout West Virginia as one of the premiere high schools in the state.

	CCHS has been named a WV and National School of Excellence.
	Redbook Magazine in 1990 named the school as one of the top 100 high schools in the nation.
	For the past four years, the school has ranked 4th or higher on the statewide assessment - the Stanford Nine Achievement Test.
	CCHS received numerous commendations from the West Virginia State Department of Education on the most recent school accreditation visit.
